Fans dressed as Alice, the Mad Hatter, and the White Rabbit, topiary animals, and a red carpet dyed green set the scene for the Royal Premiere of Tim Burton’s 3D film Alice in Wonderland. The world premiere was held last night, Thursday, February 25, at the Leicester SquareOdeon Theatre in the West End of London.
Braving the rain, the film’s stars came out in good spirits. Anne Hathaway, who plays the White Queen, exclaimed to devoted – and drenched- fans, “I love London, I love the rain!” The film’s other star, Johnny Depp, who plays the Mad Hatter, was the highlight of the night for the teenage girls who flocked to the premiere to catch a glimpse of the heartthrob. He did not disappoint, as he signed autographs and posed for pictures for nearly an hour ignoring the rain. Depp has also stared in Director Burton’s other unconventional films including Sweeny Todd in 2007 and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory in 2005.
British Designer, Vivienne Westwood, was a behind the scenes star of the evening – as Anne Hathaway, Camilla Duchess of Cornwall, and Helena Bonham Carter adorned her designs for the event.
Burton’s Alice in Wonderland is a twist on the classic children’s book by Lewis Carroll. The film takes place ten years after Alice’s original adventures in the children’s book. Burton explains, “We didn’t try to follow the stories. The versions I’ve always seen are a little girl who seems like a brat, wandering around with a bunch of weirdoes. With each of those characters, they’re all mad, but we tried to give them their own particular madness…So the idea was to take that material, set it in a different story making her a little bit older and exploring the idea of someone’s internal life.”
The film will be release in the UK on Wednesday, March 5.
It appears that Lindsay Lohan does have some acting talent: she spoke with several magazines and feigned confusion over why photographers would be so interested in following her around on her escapades in New York,LA, and her other various haunts. In an effort to avoid the press, Lohan plans to move to London where she feels people are less judgemental. She recently posted on twitter:
“Moving to the UK is in my near future – better DJs/music, and Paris is just a chunnel away!”
Three days of Guy Fawkes celebrations across London kicked off on Thursday night with dozens of fireworks displays in London parks to commemorate the infamous failed gunpowder plot to destroy the Houses of Parliament and kill King James I in 1605.
The events in London promise the best pyrotechnics and are expected to draw in large crowds particularly as many of them are free. Last night thousands flocked to south London venues where many of the top displays were taking place.
There were fireworks and bonfires at Brockwell Park, Clapham Common, Streatham Common, Wimbledon Park, Crystal Palace Park and Southwark Park. There was also displays at Roundwood Park, Brent and Syon Park, Brentford — where the Gunpowder Plot was re-enacted.
Firework displays will also be held on Friday and on Saturday when crowds will gather at some of the country’s biggest fireworks shows. Fireworks at Alexandra Palace will be coupled with England’s largest German beer festival and a funfair, and this year’s display at Battersea Park will be set to music with the theme of love.

Even with the fabled excesses of the movie business, it is unheard of for a co-star of a film to spend any money at its after-party event.
But not every actor has the disposable income of American hip hop star 50 Cent, who took bar tabs to a whole new level last Thursday after dropping £75,000 over the bar at the after-party of Dead Man Running at the Alto club in London Soho.
Hundreds of girls tried to get past security and into the VIP area. 50 Cent allowed around 15 of the girls in to sit with him – but left alone at the end of the night.
The 33-year-old rapper hired the entire VIP area for his entourage, friends and film colleagues. And he’s not even the star – being officially billed behind Tamer Hassan, Danny Dyer… and Brenda Blethyn.
A guest at the party said: “When he arrived at the club it was mayhem. The area was cleared for him and security ushered him straight through. On his table were bottles of champagne but he wanted a magnum bottle of Ace Of Spades champagne.
“You could tell that he was loving all the attention as people were trying to take photographs on their phones and were shouting his name.”
Earlier that evening, 50 had been wearing a smarter grey suit as he posed alongside singer Jamelia at the Leicester Square screening as part of the London Film Festival.

The robbery appeared to have been a simple smash and grab that left the glass from the front door of the boutique shattered and scattered across the street as cold winter weather gripped the October night.
Police officers at the scene of the crime appeared to be clueless although no doubt they will announce investigations are ongoing at some stage on Thursday.
Grace, a new London Night Club, Bar and Restaurant, inspired by legendary actress Grace Kelly is set top open this Thursday, 15th October, in the West End on the site of the Sugar Reef Bar & Restaurant on London’s famous Great Windmill Street.

It looks set to be a popular spot for people dining before the theatre, office lunches and after-work drinks of Cocktails and Champagne, as well as offering a dazzling dance floor and bar for London’s party people.
The hugely successful event, held at one of the up and coming London clubs certainly had plenty of entertainment to keep the elite clubbers happy and the newspaper gossip columns full.
